Ship Steel, a good steel with corrosion resistance, suitable for rerolling

Code of conduct for ship-breaking yards
Over 65 per cent of steel recovered from a condemned ship comes good for rerolling. But why so? This is because rerolling of ship plates require reheating of only up to 1,000 degree centigrade and that greatly restricts scale formation. Ship steel, as rerollers say, has fine grains giving it a good corrosion resistance character. A steel ministry paper says shapes and sections rerolled from ship steel are largely immune from physical defects like seams, internal cracks and furnace burns. Rebars made from low ductility ship steel lend themselves well to intensive cold twisting. Ship steel not found good for rerolling goes for melting

Outokumpu, Stainless Steel Producer, Finds Good Demand in India
As per market estimates, currently the overall demand for stainless steel flat products for industrial segment in India is over 500,000 tonnes. The demand for industrial grades is set to grow three to four times in the next 8 to 10 years. There are severe limitations in the domestic capacity to manufacture high-end products including super austenitics, duplex and super duplex range, high temperature and high performance grades of stainless steel for hostile industrial applications as in coil and sheet with width wider than 1250mm. “Outokumpu has everything to offer and has a major role to play in India,” says YPS Suri, Chairman Outokumpu India.
